Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Centre will introduce charges for people who leave their cars in the parking lots for longer than three hours, reports The National. The malls hope to discourage future metro users from leaving their cars in the malls’ parking.

Both malls are connected to metro stations.

On weekdays the first three hours are free, with four at weekends. On weekdays each extra hour will be charged at AED20; at weekends the extra first and second hours will be charged at AED40 and AED60 respectively. Those watching movies in the malls’ cinemas will get an additional hour free.

The charges will be introduced when the Dubai Metro is launched on September 9.

    Off to Dubai Mall then!
I would NEVER pay for parking at a mall.

Mall Of the Emirates is the best mall in the UAE, I understand why they would want to do that, but they should give their loyal customers the opportunity to validate their parking tickets, otherwise many of them will shift to Dubai mall.

I am with Charl : having spoilt western habits, I wud rather go to Malls like the Dubai Mall (interesting if MoE actually gets any revenues – its shoppers have all but gone elsewhere!!) However, I’d like to park my car on weekends at some Metro and take the Metro to DCC, to see if its worth the effort and also maybe it’ll change my “transportation” habits …. Last word – the parking fee after the free hiours is rather high even by western standards…(which all in Dubai blindly tend to follow…) …needs reevaluation..
