U.N. atom body rejects Arab move targeting Israel

Member states of the U.N. nuclear watchdog rejected on Friday an Arab-proposed resolution calling on Israel to join a global anti-atomic arms treaty.
The United States had urged countries to vote against the non-binding resolution, saying it could derail broader efforts to ban such arms in the Middle East and also send a negative signal to the relaunched Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
The general assembly of the 151-member International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) failed to pass the resolution with 51 against, 46 votes for and 23 abstentions.
