UAE’s telecom watchdog may delay introduction of third telecom

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has disregarded a market study that argued for the case of a third telecom operators due to the changes in market conditions, reported Maktoob Business on Sunday.

Mohamed al-Ghanim told the news website that the study was conducted before the crisis hit the region. “This study has to be completely abolished and a fresh one has to be made,” he added. “After the crisis we had to go and revisit all the variables.”

The authority is reassessing the market’s needs in light of the recent changes to nation’s economy. “The study is on the impact on the market as well as the viability of adding additional suppliers in the UAE,” Ghanim explained, although he said that the TRA has not ruled out a third telecommunications company entirely.
