The UAE foreign minister rejected calls from the US government to review the acquittal of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the half-brother of Abu Dubai’s ruler and president of the UAE, reports Zawya Dow Jones.
“There’s no way the UAE government is going to get involved on any court ruling,” Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also related to Sheikh Issa, said. “If we start doing so, what does that tell us about any court system in any country in the world? That defeats the point of an independent judiciary.”
On Sunday, a UAE court found Sheikh Issa not guilty of torturing Mohammed Shah Poor, an Afghan business man.
