The UAE’s non-oil exports increased to reach AED66 billion ($17.97 billion) in 2009, up from AED60 billion during the previous year, official news agency WAM reported on Saturday. Non-oil imports fell 21 percent to hit AED449.2 billion in 2009, the report said. The country re-exported goods worth AED147.8 billion in 2009, a 9 percent decline compared to the previous year.
The total non-oil foreign trade volume of the country reached AED663 billion in 2009, a 16 percent fall compared to 2008, the report added. “The decline rate is considered small compared to many of other countries in the world and to expectations of many analysts of economic growth at levels of the state and the region,” the report quoted Khalid Ali al-Bostani, the acting Director General of the Federal Customs Authority as saying.
