Unemployment in the UK has reached its highest level since 1995 because of the global recession, reports the BBC. The number of unemployed people from July to September increased by 210,000 to 2.47 million, taking the jobless rate to 7.9 percent, according to the National Statistics office.
Claims for unemployment benefit in August rose by 24,400 from July, to reach 1.61 million.
The jobless rate among people aged between 16 and 24 stands at 19.7 percent, which means one out of five, in this age group, is without a job.
