World’s largest airport to open cargo hub in June

Al Maktoum International Airport will open for cargo flights on June 27, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Dubai’s ambitious new travel hub, which is expected to become the world’s largest passenger and cargo airport when completed, will initially be able to handle 250,000 tons of cargo a year.

No date has been set for passenger services to launch, and the entire airport – which will have five runways and four passenger terminals – is expected to be completed, or near completion, within 15 years.

The total cost of constructing the airport is expected to hit $33 billion
