Carlos Slim, the world’s richest man and a Mexican tycoon of Lebanese origin, has discussed local investment projects with Lebanon’s top leaders.
According to press reports, Slim met on Friday with President Michel Sleiman and others, in a trip to Lebanon in which he also received an honorary medal for his achievements.
Sleiman stressed the need to “encourage expatriates to invest in Lebanon, especially since the country is witnessing economic growth and political and security stability,” according to the Daily Star. Sleiman later held a dinner to honor Slim for having “raised Lebanon’s name very high across the world.”
The annual Forbes ranking of billionaires recently named Slim the world’s richest man, dethroning Microsoft founder Bill Gates. His fortune was estimated at a net worth of $53.5 billion, according to Forbes, which said his wealth increased by $18.5 billion in 12 months. Gates, worth a mere $53 billion, slipped to second place.
