A noble cause

The objective is to collect clothes, which will be donated to the Red Crescent for distribution to the needy in different parts of the globe.

In order to achieve this goal, the Apparel Group and the Arabian Center, a newly opened shopping mall in Mirdiff, are organizing an event called 'Walk In Style… Walk For A Cause', on Friday, April 3rd, 2009.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, April 1st, at Lamcy Plaza, Lal Ganwani, chairman of Lamcy and Arabian Center, said, “The events, which is the first of its kind, is for a noble cause. Thousands will walk the ramp and help give a memorable gift to the needy and the children with their contributions.”

Echoing Mr. Ganwani's views, Nilesh Ved, chairman of Apparel Group, said, “We carry out a CSR (Corporate social responsibility) exercise every year. This year too we call upon people to support us wholeheartedly by bringing their entire family for this event. In these difficult times, we as human beings, need to stand together.”

The event promises to be a mix of fashion, fun and family entertainment and incorporates several firsts in the history of this city that is known to set new standards.

The many firsts

For the first time, thousands of people, ranging in ages from one to 100, are expected to walk the ramp for a cause in an unusual fashion show. In order to participate, all they have to do is donate a minimum of two items of clothing.

A large number of students from the various schools and colleges in the UAE are expected to take part in this charity initiative.

In addition, Emirati fashion designers will be displaying their newest collections and will be given the opportunity to showcase their creative talent to a wide and varied audience.

In the latter part of the evening, the who's who of Dubai society will also walk the ramp.

Breaking records

All the participants will sign a banner expressing solidarity with the beleaguered population of Gaza. This promises to be the longest banner ever signed by so many people anywhere and will be sent for entry in the record books.

The donated items of clothing will be placed in a huge cylinder that spans two floors. The organizers have already succeeded in collecting 15,000 kilos of clothing. They, however, hope to collect much more during the event, which starts at 4pm and goes on till 10pm.

An entertaining evening

As promised, it will be a fun-filled evening during which

Five prominent Dubai-based DJs - Hani, Sash, Zubair, Tushar, Jeff and Benson will be entertaining the multi-cultural audience.

The show will be hosted by Kritika of Citi 101.6 and Hadeel of Al Arabiya.

Gifts galore

Participants will get a certificate of participation along with a Dhs25 voucher from the Apparel Group and a 25% discount voucher from Cold Stone creamery. They will also be eligible to win several attractive spot prizes and goody bags that will be given away to the lucky winners.
