Democracy is the most important priority for 18-24 year old Arabs, according to the second annual Asda’a Burson-Marsteller Arab Youth Survey.
The survey included 2,000 face-to-face interviews with Arab nationals and Arab expatriates between the ages of 18-24 in the GCC, plus Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan.
Youths surveyed in Kuwait were most concerned about democracy, with 99 percent saying it was their biggest concern, out of a list of 16 major topics. This was followed by Egypt (98 percent), UAE (96 percent), Lebanon (95 percent), Bahrain (92 percent), Saudi Arabia (90 percent), Qatar (88 percent), Jordan (87 percent) and Oman (85 percent).
The survey, which was carried out in October last year, also found that as many as one quarter of young Arabs are in debt.
