Choueiri Group Sponsors the 2nd Annual AUD School Sports Challenge
February 25, 2013 – Dubai, UAE:
| Following up on its ongoing support of initiatives aimed at the promotion and development of youth, community and corporate sporting events, Choueiri Group took on the honor of sponsoring the American University in Dubai’s second annual School Sports Challenge (AUD SSC), held under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Makhtoum, President of the National Olympics Committee in the UAE.The highly anticipated 2nd installment of this annual multisport festival, witnessed a massive turn out on Friday, February 22, 2013, with boys and girls school teams and individual athletes participating from 23 different high schools based across the UAE.The event took full advantage of AUD’s venerable on-campus sporting facilities and purpose built venues, as student athletes competed in soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming, cross country and tug of war competitions. The AUD SSC was organized by “High Five Events”.Speaking on the success of the event, Mr. Elias Bou Saab, Executive Vice President of AUD stated that “Students engaged in athletics and sports have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, work in a team and learn that regular practice and dedication leads to success. This is the true objective behind organizing the AUD School Sports Challenge. We, as an institution of higher learning in the UAE, have a responsibility towards the Community we live in. Advocating and inspiring sportsmanship in high school students is part of AUD’s mission of playing a role in the advancement of society.”
Choueiri Group’s Chairman and CEO, Pierre Choueiri also reiterated his commitment to the event by stating that “We were happy to extend our support to the AUD School Sports Challenge, as the event is dedicated to the betterment of our youth and embodies all the right values. The competitions make up a unique platform, where tomorrow’s leaders experience the benefits of healthy and wholesome lifestyles, teamwork and competitive excellence first hand. We hope that events such as this one will motivate student athletes to excel across all areas in their lives”. Schools which sent teams out to participate in the AUD School Sports Challenge included: Al Mawakeb School – Al Barsha and Garhoud branches, Al Sanawbar School, American School of Dubai, International School of Choueifat – Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Ruweis, Sharjah and Khalifa branches, International School of Arts & Sciences (ISAS), Lycée Français International Georges Pompidou, Nibras International School, Sharjah American International School, Raffles International School South and West Campuses, Philadelphia Private School, Dubai International Academy (DIA), Universal American School, Lyceé Libanais Francophone Privé, St. Mary’s Catholic High School, and Al Khaleej National School. Proving to be a rewarding and exciting experience for school students in general, the AUD Sports Challenge also served as a great way to acquaint school students with the University’s campus life. The events were followed up with an awards and trophies presentation, where the Admissions Office at AUD also gave away 2 iPads and 2 iPad minis to students who had participated in their raffle draw. The AUD School Sports Challenge is envisioned to become an ongoing annual event, which will continue to raise the bar for providing student athletes with the most inspiring environment and opportunities for healthy competition. |
