Dubai, UAE, July 6, 2010: DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, has further expanded its presence in the UAE with the announcement of a new logistics facility opening in the Hamriyah Free Zone (HFZ) in Sharjah. DHL is the first courier company to set up an office in the Free Zone and the first to pass on to UAE customers the cost efficiencies of duty free clearance and reduced transit times as a result of the new facility.
The DHL Express facility will provide bonded, or duty free, facilities to customers wishing to import or export shipments across the GCC. With the UAE one of the two strategic hubs in the Middle East, the new facility further strengthens DHL’s commitment to the region and its position as the leading regional logistics company.
“The opening of this facility in the Hamriyah Free Zone is a response to increasing demand from customers for a logistics solution which will reduce costs and time taken for shipments to and from Sharjah. The opening of this new facility will enable our customers to benefit from duty free import and export shipments, and will provide us with the competitive advantage of being the only courier company in the Hamriyah Free Zone to offer this service. The establishment of this facility is testament to our continued efforts to build our presence in the UAE as a leading and innovative logistics company, and our commitment to offering our customers the highest standards of service, convenience and quality,” said Derek Tully, Operations Manager, DHL Express UAE.
“Sharjah is fast becoming a major hub for industrial development in the UAE given its strategic location. With well established and state-of-the-art facilities, the Hamriyah Free Zone was an obvious choice when selecting a location of this facility,” he added.
This latest announcement follows DHL’s recently expanded air network with an Aerologic route linking the UAE, via Sharjah, to Asia and Europe. Aerologic, the joint venture cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, operates a B777F flight between Leipzig and Hong Kong with a connection in Sharjah. The additional connection in DHL’s air network followed growing demand from the UAE business community to facilitate growing trade between the UAE and its largest trading partner, China.
With over 23 facilities and service points across the UAE, this investment further provides customers with not only convenience but an enhanced service offering.
DHL has been a pioneer in the Middle East logistics industry over the last 30 years through its innovation, service excellence and commitment to providing customers with superior logistics solutions.
