For the 12th consecutive year Dubai Duty Free has received the award for ‘Best Duty Free Shopping’ at the Business Traveller Middle East awards ceremony held this year at The Address Hotel in Marina on the eve of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2013.

Dubai Duty Free, which achieved record sales of US$1.6 billion in 2012 and has been acknowledged as the largest single airport duty free operation in the world, came out tops in the readers’ survey conducted by the magazine within the category ‘Best Airport in the Middle East for Duty Free Shopping’.

With more than 300 travel industry managers representing their industries at the gala dinner ceremony, the event was organised by Motivate and Panacea Publishing, and featured H.E. Fadi Abboud, Minister of Tourism, Lebanon and Khalid Hadi, Executive Director, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority as guests of honour.

Commenting on this 12th consecutive award, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin said: “This award reflects the views and opinions of frequent travelers and we are delighted to once again claim the top spot in the duty free category. It is a great endorsement of the operation that we continue to win and reflects the hard work of all of our employees. My thanks to H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, for his ongoing support. My thanks also to all of our 5,700 employees who deserve this recognition.”

The Business Traveller Middle East award is the second major award to be won by Dubai Duty Free this year. In April, the operation received the Duty Free News International (DFNI) Awards for Travel-Retail Excellence for ‘Best Airport Travel Retailer of the Year’.
