Dubai, UAE (July 7, 2010) – Following the launch of HyattEarth, an environmental movement by Hyatt hotels aimed at creating a sustainable environment via a company-wide commitment, Hyatt properties in Dubai received multiple wins at the first ever ‘Dubai Green Tourism Awards’ organized by The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), which took place at the InterContinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City on Wednesday, 30 June.
The award ceremony highlights DTCM’s unique initiative to recognize the efforts made by Dubai hotels and hotel apartments based on several criteria, including the participating properties’ efforts to reduce or re-use waste water, general waste prevention, implementation of environmental systems to realize resource efficiency, reduction of paper use, prevention of unnecessary packaging, and avoiding products with hazardous properties.
“Hyatt properties work on running their respective operations in line with ‘green tourism’ guidelines, and we are very proud to have been recognized for these efforts,” stated Thierry Bertin, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts – South West Asia International Operations. “The awards represent our commitment to serving the environments in which we are present, which is part of Hyatt’s overall authentic hospitality,” Bertin continued.
Park Hyatt Dubai and Grand Hyatt Dubai were voted among the three most environmentally friendly five-star hotels in Dubai, and achieved first and second place in the award ceremony respectively, while Hyatt Regency Dubai & Galleria was shortlisted for this category.
Grand Hyatt Dubai Residential Apartments also won second place in the deluxe apartment category
Hyatt properties worldwide have been adopting eco-friendly efforts throughout various elements of their operations. Initiatives such as waste recycling, energy conservation and environmental outreach campaigns placed Hyatt hotels in Dubai among the 18 nominees, out of the 79 candidates running for this first edition award.
