22/6/2009, AMMAN— Under the patronage of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Walid al-Maani, the 8th Commencement of NYIT programs was held at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).
During the graduation ceremony of 350 graduate and post-graduate students, al-Maani praised the leading role of NYIT and its continued efforts to improve and advance the level of higher education and supply the Jordanian labor market with highly qualified graduates.
NYIT Executive Chairman in the Middle East, Dr. Mohamed Hussein, said, “NYIT Jordan is simultaneously keen to train university staff and faculty on the latest teaching methodologies and techniques applied by the world’s best universities and other educational institutions.”
He added: “The university seeks to become a very prestigious university in the Middle East. This is being done through embracing modern concepts aimed at preparing generations in the region to meet the present and future needs of this part of the world.”
He pointed out the special accreditation the university’s programs in Jordan have acquired in all the specializations it teaches to its approximately 1,000 students coming from 23 Arab and foreign countries. He indicated that NYIT has plans to introduce new programs designed to meet labor market demands.
Dr. Mohamed Hussein spoke about the participation of a number of the 8th batch graduates at NYIT main campus held in New York city; the first time NYIT Amman students graduate from the USA. He added that “NYIT Jordan is proud that Jordanian students and their families took part in the grand celebration among 4,500 students from the university’s branches around the world.”
“The Jordanian participation in the academic occasion had a special flavor because it was the first time students from the Jordan branch take part in the event”.
Dr. Edward Guiliano, president of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), stressed the university’s role in preparing graduates to carry the responsibility of scientific challenge and change.
Dr. Guilano, said: “We at NYIT are delighted to join this nation and today’s global citizens in preparing for a prosperous future. Indeed, for over 50 years, we have sought to provide access to opportunity for qualified students and to provide career-oriented, professional education. As a not-for-profit institution of higher learning, that is our mission. Our rewards are not measured in money, but in the creation of human capital. Our students and graduates are those rewards”.
Linda Davila, NYIT Board of Trustees Chairperson, USA, said that the success achieved by NYIT on the academic level has gained the university a good reputation in training and preparing its graduates.
She added that the success of NYIT experience in Jordan was the result of efforts exerted and continued cooperation and partnership with Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).
Dr. Robert Vogt, External Advisor to the President of NYIT said that the quality of education and the excellence achieved by NYIT was the result of the programs provided by the university which match the real needs of the communities, especially those of Arab communities.
