AMMAN — New York Institute of Technology has concluded its fifth Talent Show ’09, which was held last week with the participation of 42 male and female students from public and private universities and schools.
The festival is aimed to encourage students to exhibit their talents and creativity in different arts, including music composition, singing and acting, in addition to dancing and folklore dancing.
NYIT’s Executive Chairman in the Middle East Dr. Mohammad Hussein said the Talent Show’09 is “a component of a package of programs organized by NYIT regularly to stimulate the talents of students and spur them to take part in non-academic activities, including sports, art, cultural and social events.”
Dr. Hussein added: “The idea of the talent show is almost new to Jordan. This is a source of pride for us to lead the way to such a type of event, where proceedings go to support charitable projects.”
The on-campus festival included a variety of shows. Participating students performed Arabic and Western songs and modern as well as folklore dances, connecting between heritage and modernity.
Other students performed comic scenes, while a fourth group displayed martial arts, accompanied by music.
The majority of these shows were purely the work of the students themselves: They created the lyrics, the music, the dances’ moves and the script for the comedy shows.
NYIT is a non-profit university that entered Jordan in 2001 under an academic agreement with the Jordan University of Science and Technology. NYIT Amman offers Undergraduate programs (school of Engineering and Computing sciences, school of Management, and school of Arts) and Graduate programs (school of Engineering and Computing sciences, school of Management).
