Paul Murnaghan Crowned Champion of the Dubai Duty Free Sponsored Mark Fahy Memorial Golf Day

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club played host to the Dubai Irish Golf Society for the annual Mark Fahy Memorial Trophy sponsored by Dubai Duty Free. Fifty DIGS members turned out to support the event which is run in memory of Mark Fahy who was a prominent figure in the Irish community in Dubai before passing away from cancer. As well as being a tribute to Mark the event also raises funds for various cancer charities with the help of long term sponsor Dubai Duty Free.

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club played host to the Dubai Irish Golf Society for the annual Mark Fahy Memorial Trophy sponsored by Dubai Duty Free.  Fifty DIGS members turned out to support the event which is run in memory of Mark Fahy who was a prominent figure in the Irish community in Dubai before passing away from cancer.   As well as being a tribute to Mark the event also raises funds for various cancer charities with the help of long term sponsor Dubai Duty Free.

The champion on the day was Paul Murnaghan who won in convincing fashion by three strokes after his excellent score of 38 stableford points.  The winner of the Men’s Division had to be decided on the count-back, and it was Andrew Glover who took the top spot with 35 points and the better back nine over John Call.  Brendan O’Connor collected third prize in the Men’s Division, and it was DIGS Captain Tom Hoban who was awarded the prize for Best Gross performer with 26 gross points.  In the Ladies Division it was Maura Duggan who collected first prize with 32 points after beating Margaret Breen by a single point.

Commenting on the success of the Mark Fahy Memorial Golf Day, Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free said: “This annual golf event has grown quite popular seeing new members playing every year. Thanks to the new Captain Tom Hoban, my team at Dubai Duty Free and to Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club for making this year’s event so enjoyable. I am glad the competition was so closely contested and that a fun day seemed to have been had by all.”

After the event, Dubai Creek’s Head Golf Professional Stephen Hubner commented; “It is always wonderful to welcome the Dubai Irish Golf Society to Dubai Creek and we are honoured to host this very special event.  On behalf of the club I would like to say thank you to Dubai Duty Free for their continued support of golf in the region, in particular to Executive Vice Chairman Mr Colm McLoughlin and President Mr George Horan who we are also delighted to have as our own club captain this year.  We look forward to hosting both the DIGS and Dubai Duty Free again in the near future.”
