AMMAN, Jordan — Masafat, the company representing the English Manchester United Club in Jordan and neighboring Arab countries has started to attract football fans from the age range of 10-17 years to take part in the Manchester United summer camp for 2009, which begins in July in Amman.
The Amman-based Arab company has announced that it has opened registration for this event (www.distances-tsd.com), which is considered one of the largest sports-entertainment functions in the world, in which more than 75 countries are participating.
Technical Manager of the program Bashar Hawamdeh said the summer camp is divided into two stages, the first of which is in Amman, featuring intensive training under the supervision of a Jordanian football star before participants are qualified to travel to the headquarters of Manchester United in England, where the second stage begins.
Hawamdeh said: “Clifton University will handle their accommodation entirely, and will enrich their training program with morning English courses and educational lectures aimed at polishing their skills and build their personal capacities.”
Meanwhile, the evening session will include football training under the supervision of masters of European football and veteran players who have taken part in the “red devils” team as it pursued the English premier league title.
Commenting on the function, the program’s marketing manager Muna Al-Sulh said the annual event offers a genuine opportunity for the youth to come in contact with the stars of the green football fields and live a unique experience that is not easily forgotten.
She said the marketing plan in place now targets young people from Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, the Gulf states, Egypt and Libya.
To add an element of entertainment to life in the sports camp, there will be tours to acquaint participants with landmark tourist sites and sports facilities that have witnessed major football championships like Wembley and Old Trafford stadiums.
Participants will also have the opportunity to chat and have a photo opportunity with the stars of Man United like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo and several other team stars. Supervisors from the club will take observations on the participating trainees with a view to attract the best of them to the London team.
The team stars will present participants with sports bags, with training suits, shoes and a football carrying the logo of the oldest and most famous club in the European continent.
Thanks to its victories and strong management, Manchester United has been rated since 1990 as one of the richest clubs in the world. It was established in 1878 under the name “Newton Heath LYR (Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway)” by some railway workers. Its name was shortened to Newton Heath and it made its entrance into the Football League in 1892.
Among the major achievements of Manchester United is its winning of European Champions League three times (1986, 1990 and 2008). It won the premier league title 18 times, FA Cup 11 times, Football League Cup three times, UEFA Super Cup one time, FA Charity/Community Cup 16 times, European Cups’ Winners Cup one time, and FIFA Club World Cup one time.
