Samsonite Black Label unveils Trunk, a celebration of craftsmanship and style

This season old and new come together in a celebration of Samsonite. The finest iconic travel pieces from the 1920s and '30s have been re-issued with a sleek modern twist in the form of Trunk. The hand-made limited edition collection is a re-issue of the original Shwayder Brothers (Samsonite founders) trunk which sees a strong fusion between fashion and luxury travel. This season old and new come together in a celebration of Samsonite. The finest iconic travel pieces from the 1920s and ‘30s have been re-issued with a sleek modern twist in the form of Trunk. The hand-made limited edition collection is a re-issue of the original Shwayder Brothers (Samsonite founders) trunk which sees a strong fusion between fashion and luxury travel. The result, a unique collection of beautifully crafted Trunk luggage, perfect for today’s stylish traveller.

Trunk, designed by Samsonite’s Creative Director Quentin Mackay, successfully combines rich heritage and craftsmanship with high fashion. Impactful and intricate detailing features strongly throughout while fusing authentic and traditional detailing with modern technology. Chunky locks tailored to include a modern TSA function are displayed while the reworking of the original case using bold geometric kaleidoscope prints provides an interesting take on this season’s Technicolor Explosion trend.

Trunk comprises six iconic travel pieces which include;

ø Heritage Trunk, an exact yet updated re-edition of the original 1920s Shwayder Brothers Trunk

ø Two Uprights, available in sizes 50 and 55, both include an extendable handle for ease of motion as well as a shoe bag, laundry bag and shirt bag (only for the 55)

ø Beauty case, includes a removable shoulder strap , internal mirror and small pouch

ø Attaché – Sleek briefcase style case with handle and dust bag

ø Pilot case, includes an extendable handle, internally a laptop cover and clear pouch for liquids is featured

All models feature traditional hand-made luggage construction techniques and detailing including – original style locks with modern functions, riveted construction, replicated for authenticity and original molded Vulco Corners re-interpreted, fusing old details with modern technology and function.

For the protection of the larger items there is also a protective cover available, made from strong canvas and trimmed with leather detailing.

“The Trunk is where Samsonite grew from, so as we look each year to a heritage re-edition it was only natural that we revisit this most symbolic of pieces”, comments Quentin Mackay. “We wanted to create a collection that took the very best of its timeless design.  Keeping the best elements, especially the high levels of craftsmanship and re-working them with modern materials, functionality and new concepts to create a collection that evoked the adventure and luxury of that early travel experience while serving the needs of today’s traveler”

The Samsonite Black Label Trunk is available in classic hues of Steamship Cream (with shiny gold finish hardware) and Heritage Black (with silver finish) hardware via Samsonite Black Label boutiques worldwide.
