To put an end to ‘lost economic opportunities’, Saudi Arabia has announced that it will be switching its official weekend to Friday and Saturday.
The change, announced on national Saudi news agency SPA and decreed by King Abdullah, will play into effect this upcoming weekend and will be in line with the GCC’s five other members.
Since last month, when Oman made the same switch, the kingdom remained the GCC’s only state with a Thursday-Friday weekend.
According to the statement, this change is “for the sake of putting an end to negative effects and the lost economic opportunities consistently associated with variation based on work days between local departments, ministries and institutions and the regional and international counterparts.”
