In 2005, the Oasis Centre, which was leased out by the group, was completely burnt down by a fire. The fire was started by contractors undertaking renovation work. They had apparently disconnected a fire alarm system because of the renovations. In 2006, the company announced plans to re-build the mall, making the retail space three times larger than the earlier one. The new development is coming up on the same location.
After the fire, reports had estimated it would cost around $82m to re-build the mall. Earlier this year, Landmark opened a 200,000 sq ft Oasis Center mall in India.
